| husband just diagnosed with colon cancer metastatic to liver what is life expectancy with treatment? |
| has had surgery to remove the colon cancer His colon cancer is Stage IV , he hasn’t had any chemo treatments yet, we are to see his the cancer dr. soon. Yes, we are right with God, very active with our church family. I just wanted to know what others may can tell me that have been thru this before. Know nothing about chemo. He has a large mass in right lobe of liver and several smaller ones in the left lobe. Best reply by Kelly: No two cancer cases are the same, you really need to speak with your Oncologist and get several opinions. Metastasis to the liver means the Cancer has spread to the liver. http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Sites-Types/metastatic http://www.uptodate.com/patients/content/topic.do?topicKey=~uySy4hv7M03My What stage is the Cancer at? If the Metastasis in the liver can be removed, his cancer can be cured or go into remission. And he can live a long healthy live after-wards. However, the cancer doesn’t always stay in remission. Has he had Chemotherapy? If so how many rounds and how long was it? My brothers sister-in-law had colon cancer she was diagnosed around fall of 2004 and found it during testing when she had her gallbladder removed, she had her colon removed and was in chemo for 8 months. At the time I thought that was rather short. They declared her cancer free in July of 2006 and told her it was in remission. A few months later she wasn’t feeling well and they told her she was fine, she didn’t believe her oncologist so she went to the University of Michigan cancer center where she was sent for some of her treatments in the past. They ran various tests on her and found out her cancer never went into remission and had either spread rapidly or she had a new cancer and there was nothing they could do, she died in January of 2007 at 26 with 2 small children. So from the time she was diagnosed until she died was around 2 & 1/2 years. However, as I mentioned no 2 cancer cases are the same. She had a poor outcome I believe because she had poor treatment and/or care, that doesn’t mean your husband will or that he will die from colon cancer. Edit: Here is a link to some info on Stage 4 Colon Cancer. Unfortunately at stage 4 it is too widespread usually for surgery to help him usually because there are too many Metastasis or they are too large. http://www.cancer.org/Cancer/ColonandRectumCancer/DetailedGuide/colorectal-cancer-treating-by-stage-colon For advanced cancers, radiation therapy may also be used to help prevent or relieve symptoms such as pain. While it may shrink tumors for a time, it is very unlikely to result in a cure. If your doctor recommends radiation therapy, it is important that you understand the goal of treatment You may want to also check out some cancer support groups, from http://www.cancer.org both for your husband and yourself (and your kids if you have any – even if they are grown). Your friends and family who have not been touched or effected by Cancer will be sympathetc however they wont know what to say or if they should say anything at all to you. The support groups are people with cancer and there are support groups specifically for caregivers/spouses/children of cancer patients and victims. These people willhave similar experiences to you and can likely help you better. | Is there any treatment for liver cancer? |
| Best reply by Usama Khan: A PET-CT scan may be suggested if doctors are considering surgery as a treatment. It gives more detailed information about the part of the body being scanned. The correct treatment of liver cancer can mean the difference between life and death. Not all patients with cancers in the liver are potentially curable. These are some of the treatments available: Surgery, Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy, Photodynamic Therapy, Hyperthermia, Radiation Therapy and Radiosurgery. | Does anyone know of a great cancer treatment center? |
| My uncle was recently diagnosed with colon cancer stage four, liver cancer, pancreas cancer and brain cancer. He also has diabetes. Doctors say he has probably had this for about eight years, but was never diagnosed. He is given only two months to live. Anyone know of any centers, treatments or survival stories that apply? thanks. Best reply by Sensei Scandal: Contact Gary Null Associates… http://www.garynull.com They can point you in the right direction. Edit: Gary Y – Dr Luc Montagnier is the person who along with Robert Gallo supposedly “discovered” HIV… right? Here’s Dr. Montagnier – Is he a quack? All modern medicine does is match symptoms to pharmaceutical drugs and doctors are compensated for pushing untested drugs. NOW THAT’S QUACKERY! If Gary Null was such a “quack”, why isn’t he in jail? I can tell you! It is because when he speaks about alternative and natural cures, he always does it while showing Citations from the Peer Reviewed Medical Journals. He uses documentation from those who say it’s quackery, showing that they themselves do the studies and publish the findings. So who’s the REAL quack? It’s could be you! And the biggest hypocrite of them all, the quack – Steven Barrett. He’s not even what he claims to be! He’s not even board certified and he lied about it. Is this who we’re supposed to trust? | Natural Cancer Treatment – What Are The Treatment Options And Survival Rates For Metastatic Colon Cancer |
| Metastatic colon cancer is one of the leading causes of death from cancers and tumors in the USA and unfortunately the survival rate for those diagnosed with it is below 10%. If you have been diagnosed with a metastatic colon cancer then your life will change, but you should always remember that there is chance that you’ll be cured and try to fight the illness as much as you can. Colon cancer occurs when a tumor appears in the colon or in the rectum. The colon and the rectum together form the large intestine. First, only a tumor appears either in the colon or in the rectum, but if it is not treated then the tumor will spread, and in time it will affect other organs, such as the liver and the lungs, causing tumors to appear in them too. This is the final phase of colon cancer, when it has spread too much and there are too many cancerous cells in the body. It is also called stage IV colon cancer or metastatic colon cancer. When doctors discover colon cancer they usually immediately recommend surgery to remove the part of the large intestine where the tumor has grown. After the surgery several tests are performed to see if the cancer has spread. If the result is positive and the cancerous cells are discovered in other distant places of the body then you will receive the stage IV colon cancer diagnosis. You still have several treatment options after the metastatic colon cancer diagnose. What the best treatment for you is will be determined by several clinical trials. The treatment is very influenced by how far has the metastatic colon cancer has spread. If it has only spread to a single organ different from the large intestine then the treatment has higher chances of success because it can be directed to that single site. The most common place where metastatic colon cancer spreads is the liver, and sometimes the lungs. The problem is that at most patients colon cancer has spread to many other locations, and the treatment can not be directed to a single site. The best treatment option in this situation is chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is done by injecting, directly in the blood, certain substances that have the ability of killing cancer cells. Chemotherapy has severe side effects like loss of hair, fatigue, loss of appetite, fever, and many more. The survival rate for chemotherapy-treated patients is not too high, but it increases each year and new techniques are continuously researched and developed. We can only hope that the future will bring good news for those with metastatic colon cancer, and also remember that some manage to survive it and you could be among them. |

| Liver Cancer Statistics |
| In this video, Hans Rosling uses liver cancer statistics to show how cancer data from IARC ( International Agency for research on Cancer) can be displayed as moving bubbles in Gapminder World. In this visual way, you can easily compare data for the most common cancers and rapidly understand that each of them have different distributions in the world. Liver cancer is mainly caused by chronic infection by the Hepatitis B virus (and also by the Hepatitis C virus). As this infection is most common in China and other parts of East Asia, as well as in Africa South of the Sahara, it is the countries in these regions that bear the main burden of Liver Cancer in the World (independent of if they have low, middle or high income). Comparing gender differences indicate that higher alcohol consumption in men may explain why the rate of liver cancer in men is twice as high as in women. is.gd – New cases of liver cancer per 100 000 men (with size showing the total number of new cases of liver cancer) Author: Gapcast Duration: 351 Published: 2009-05-21 06:14:29 Liver Cancer Statistics |
