| An Hour of Time |
| A man came home very late from another long day of work to find his five-year-old son waiting for him. "Daddy, can I ask you a question?""What is is?" the father asked."How much money do you make an hour?""I make $20 an hour," the father answered impatiently. The little boy thought for a moment, then asked, "Daddy, can I have nine dollars?""Don't be ridiculous," the father answered. "I have a lot of work to finish, so stop bothering me." Later, the father began thinking about his son's request."I've decided you can have the nine dollars," he said to his son."Oh, thank you," the boy replied as he opened his piggy bank and began counting out money. When the father saw all the dollar bills his son had already saved, he began to get angry."Look at all the money you already have, he said, "What on earth are you going to buy?"The boy added his father's nine dollars to the pile and offered the bills to his father."Daddy, may I buy an hour of your time?"Reprinted with permission fromGood Stuff800-220-8600To be in your children’s memories tomorrow, you have to be in their lives today. ~ AnonymousThe best thing to spend on your children is your time. ~Louise HartKids spell love T-I-M-E. ~ John Crudele“When we share ourselves with others, we give them the most priceless possessions we have: life and time…When you give someone your precious time, sharing yourself in listening, empathizing, praying, and working, that time can never be recovered. Once time is gone, it’s gone…but it’s never lost. It becomes an investment.” –Warren Weirsbe<< Back to Baby Poems Home Page |

| When You Thought I Wasn't Looking |
| When you thought I wasn't looking,I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I wanted to paint another one. When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you feed a stray cat, and I thought it was good to be kind to animals. When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make my favorite cake for me,and I knew that little things are special things. When you thought I wasn't looking, I heard you say a prayer, and I believed there is a God I could always talk to.When you thought I wasn't looking, I felt you kiss me goodnight, and I felt loved. When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's all right to cry. When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw that you caredand I wanted to be everything that I could be.When you thought I wasn't looking, I looked...and wanted to say thanks for all the thingsI saw when you thought I wasn't looking.~Author Unknown<< Back to Baby Poems Home |

| Housework Can Wait |
| Come in, but don't expect to find All dishes done, all floors ashine. Observe the crumgs and toys galore. The smudgy prints upon the door. The little ones we shelter here Don't thrive on a spotless atmosphere. They're more inclined to disarray And carefree even messy play. Their needs are great, their patience small. All day I'm at their beck and call. It's Mommy come! Mommy see! Wiggly worms and red scraped knee. Painted pictures, blocks piled high. My floors unshined, the days go by. Some future day they'll flee this nest, And I at last will have a rest! Now you tell me which matters more, A happy child or a polished floor?~Author Unknown<<< Back to Baby Poems Home |

| The World's Sweetest Miracle |
| A little bit of heaven Drifted down from above - A handful of happiness, A heartful of love. The mystery of life, So sacred and sweet The giver of joy, So deep and complete. Precious and priceless, So lovable, too The world's sweetest miracle, Baby, is you.If one feels the need of something grand, something infinite, something that makes one feel aware of God, one need not go far to find it. I think that I see something deeper, more infinite, more eternal than the ocean in the expression of the eyes of a little baby when it wakes in the morning and coos or laughs because it sees the sun shining on its cradle. ~Vincent van Gogh << Back to Baby Poems Home |

| Children Learn What They Live |
| If a child lives with criticism,He learns to condemn. If a child lives with hostility,He learns to fight. If a child lives with ridicule,He learns to be shy.If a child lives with shameHe learns to feel guilty. If a child lives with tolerance,He learns to be patient. If a child lives with praise,He learns to appreciate. If a child lives with encouragement,He learns confidence. If a child lives with fairness,He learns justice. If a child lives with security,He learns to have faith. If a child lives with approval,He learns to like himself. If a child lives with acceptance and friendship,He learns to find love in the world.~Dorothy Law Nolte Ph.D.Nothing you do for children is ever wasted. | Children Watch, Listen & Learn What They Live |
| Ever wonder why people are the way they are or where they learned to be a certain way? We cannot discount the influence of upbringing, peers, environment and genetics. Although we have very limited or no control over some of the things that shape our children, we can do our part to make a positive difference. We teach them by the way we treat them and the way we treat others. We can lead them by our example and how we react and cope with people and situations. It is empowering and encouraging to know that children can learn love and happiness when it is manifested in our own lives. They watch... they listen... they learn...they copy, and it becomes what they live. The greatest reward we can ever receive as parents is seeing them live out the beautiful qualities of truly happy and healthy children who grow up to make their own positive contributions to the world and the lives of others.Below is a very beautiful poem that can inspire us all to do our part in being a positive influence in the lives of children as they learn what they live. May we guide them and help them learn from the good and the bad, inspire them to walk in integrity, live with security, confidence and love, and be the best they can be!Children Learn What They LiveIf a child lives with criticism,He learns to condemn. If a child lives with acceptance and friendship,He learns to find love in the world.~Dorothy Law Nolte Ph.D.If you want your children to improve, let them overhear the nice things you say about them to others. ~Haim GinottKids go where there is excitement. They stay where there is love. ~Zig ZiglarLive so that when your children think of fairness and integrity, they think of you. ~H. Jackson Brown, Jr.When did we ever get the crazy idea that in order to make children do better, first we must make them feel worse? Think of the last time you felt humiliated or treated unfairly. Did you feel like cooperating or doing better? ~Jane NelsonCopyright © 2011 Krystal Kuehn. All Rights Reserved. | The Best Way Children Learn |
| I Tried to Teach My Child with Books; He Gave Me Only Puzzled Looks.I Tried to Teach My Child with Words; They Passed Him by Often Unheard.Despairingly, I Turned Aside;"How Shall I Teach this Child," I cried?Into My Hand He Put the Key,"Come," He Said, "Play with Me." ~ Author UnknownFor a small child there is no division between playing and learning; between the things he or she does "just for fun" and things that are "educational." The child learns while living and any part of living that is enjoyable is also play. ~Penelope Leach PLAYING SHOULD BE FUN! In our great eagerness to teach our children we studiously look for 'educational' toys, games with built-in lessons, books with a "message." Often these "tools" are less interesting and stimulating than the child's natural curiosity and playfulness. Play is by its very nature educational. And it should be pleasurable. When the fun goes out of play, most often so does the learning. ~Joanne E. Oppenheim Kids and Play, ch. 1 (1984)Innately, children seem to have little true realistic anxiety. They will run along the brink of water, climb on the window sill, play with sharp objects and with fire, in short, do everything that is bound to damage them and to worry those in charge of them, that is wholly the result of education; for they cannot be allowed to make the instructive experiences themselves. ~Sigmund FreudKrystal Kuehn, MA, LPC, LLP, NCC is a psychotherapist, author, teacher & musician. | Thankful Kids R Happy Kids |
| How wonderful it would be if we could help our children and grandchildren to learn thanksgiving at an early age. Thanksgiving opens the doors. It changes a child's personality. A child is resentful, negative—or thankful. Thankful children want to give, they radiate happiness, they draw people. ~ Sir John TempletonThe best way to help our children learn to be thankful is by our example. When we are thankful, it shows in our attitude, actions, and words. Instead of complaining, let them hear us praising. Instead of thinking only of our own needs, let them see us giving and helping others. They are watching and listening to us as we model gratitude—focusing on what is right rather than what is wrong and on what we have rather than what we don't have. Children who are overindulged learn entitlement rather than gratitude. They come to expect privileges as if they are rights they can expect and demand, and they become resentful when they do not get their way. It is often very loving parents who think they are helping their children by meeting all of their wants and wishes. The greatest desire of anyone is ultimately to be genuinely and truly happy with inner peace and love. Instilling a heart of gratitude in children is the greatest gift and investment in his or her future success and happiness that we can give. A grateful heart is a merry heart. It instills in us a desire to give. It leads to a lifelong experience of inner joy and peace. Gratitude is the path to success and purpose. It shapes our personalities and instills in us inner beauty and grace. It opens doors to fulfilling relationships and pursuits. Thankfulness radiates happiness!! We can help our children radiate happiness and live life to the fullest as they learn and practice thanksgiving! We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures. ~Thornton Wilder Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings. ~William Arthur Ward?Copyright © 2010 Krystal Kuehn, Baby-Poems.com All Rights Reserved. | Sing & Dance Yourself Happy! |
| A child sings before it speaks, dances almost before it walks. Music is in our hearts from the beginning. ~Pamela BrownWe are all born to sing. I'm not saying we are all born to be professional singers. We don't have to sing in perfect key or have the greatest voice to express ourselves with song. Notice how babies respond to music from the time they are born? It's so beautiful to hear their sweet voices sing and hum melodies and their little hands and feet move to music. Singing is a part of our creative expression. When was the last time you sang a song from your heart? Even humming a simple melody to yourself can lighten your burdens and bring out the childlike joy of music that's inside you. A fun little dance or skip in your step can remind you to celebrate and enjoy life today, right now!Copyright © 2010 Krystal Kuehn, All Rights Reserved. | Leaving a Positive Mark |
| A child's life is like a piece of paper on which every person leaves a mark. ~Chinese ProverbWhether we realize it or not, we leave a mark in the lives of the children we are privileged and blessed to parent, teach, and care for. May we choose our words carefully. May our attitudes model hope and faith. May our words be full of grace and kindess. And, may our interactions and time spent together be loving, fun and truly enjoyable!! |

| There is an Artist in Every Child |
| Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up. ~Pablo Picasso Inherently filled with wonder and curiosity, children are constantly learning and growing. Whether it is a new toy or environment, they love to explore each novel experience in a quest to understand and discover their worlds. Children can spend hours at play because life is an adventure. They set out on missions and build fortresses. They design clothing and paint portraits. They gently rock baby dolls and tenderly care for their needs. Children can be very imaginative and creative. May we always encourage and appreciate the free expression of the artist in every single child!Teach a child how to think, not what to think. - Sidney Sugarman Copyright © 2010 Baby Poems. | Friendship - One of Life's Greatest Treasures |
| Friendship is the golden thread that ties all hearts together. ~unknownChildren learn the value of friendship from a very early age. They meet new people and make new friends all the time--in school, at family gatherings and outings, and at educational and social events. They soon learn that spending time with others is not only enjoyable, but it is a life skill. They discover the power of teamwork and the challenge of compromise. They develop the skills of communication and assertion. Their inner need for belonging and acceptance is often met in their relationships. Their innate desire to share, give and love others is also expressed through their relationships. Friends are playmates and companions with whom life is enjoyed. Friends are also there to support, encourage and comfort. One of the greatest gifts a child can receive is a true friend. Adults have the opportunity to model friendship and caring to children every day. We show them the value of friendship through our own lives and by valuing and receiving their friendship. Blessed are they who have the gift of making friends, for it is one of God's best gifts. It involves many things, but above all, the power of going out of one's self, and appreciating whatever is noble and loving in another. ~Thomas Hughes Strangers are just friends waiting to happen. ~Rod McKuenThe best vitamin for making friends: B1 ~unknownFriends are the most important part of your life. Treasure the tears, treasure the laughter, but most importantly, treasure the memories." ~Dave Brenner Copyright © 2010 Baby Poems. All Rights Reserved. He or she is one-of-a kind, uniquely gifted and beautiful--born to love, to laugh, to discover, to create, to share, to give, to serve, to win, to experience life fully and enjoy its many gifts. What makes each child different and unique is also what makes him or her so special. No one laughs just like her or finds all the same things amusing, fun, interesting or intriguing. No one else has those same bright eyes or says the same cute sayings. No one else likes all the exact same food, toys, or songs.Celebrate the miracle - There never was and there never will be anyone exactly like you!<< Go Back to Baby Poems Home |
